Match Report: Army Ladies vs Cambridge University Monday 9 June 2015

Fitzwilliam College Sports Ground, Cambridge

The Army Ladies arrived at Cambridge the morning after a close and dramatic win at Alton the previous evening. On an overcast and breezy morning the Army Ladies won the toss and elected field. From the outset the Army Ladies set an imposing field with the aim of restricting Cambridge’s scoring chances.

The plan was successful and Cambridge ladies struggled to get off the mark only scoring just 10 runs from the first eight overs. Excellent bowling displays from Cpl Eddie Taylor-Koff, bowling 7.5 overs for eight runs with three wickets, and Lt Col Sarah Streete, bowling eight overs for 15 runs with a fantastic four wickets. M Hanspal (Cambridge Ladies) put in a resilient display facing 96 balls, scoring 16 runs and finished the match not out.

The Cambridge Ladies final wicket being taken in the 39th over with a fantastic catch behind the wicket by LCpl Olivia Cadec-Trimmer (Wicket-keeper) off the bowling of Cpl Edwina Taylor-Koff. Five Cambridge ladies fell for a duck, the imposing fielding and accurate bowling paying dividends: Cambridge Ladies all out for 64.

The Army Ladies buoyed by a fantastic bowling and fielding display took to the wicket and delivered an exhausting lesson on running between the wickets. LCpl Olivia Cadec-Trimmer discovered an innate ability to hook the ball down to within inches of the fine leg boundary ball after ball. Cpl Katie Fryer looked thrilled to be running three after three!

A superb batting display by the openers (Katie Fryer and Olivia Cadec-Trimmer) and the Cambridge score met and passed within 8 overs. Olivia reached her maiden 50 in 61 balls in 65 minutes scoring 2 fours, retiring on 61. Katie Fryer reached her maiden 50 in 85 balls in 120 minutes, going on to score 61 before being stumped by the wicket-keeper off the bowling of M Hanspal.

It was decided to play on to allow both teams to gain valuable practice. The batting prowess continued with Sarah Streete scoring 15 of 21 balls, Emily Wall scoring 15 of 19 balls not out and Claire Harper scoring 16 of 10 balls not out. Time brought an end to the match after 37 overs. The final tally for the Army Ladies stood at an impressive 215 for 3, an all round masterclass in Ladies Cricket. Congratulations to Katie and Olivia for their maiden 50s in Army Cricket.
