The UKAF Ladies team completed their short trip to Nakuru with a second victory in three days as they outplayed the Kenyan side in a 15 overs contest at the Nakuru Day Secondary School ground on Wednesday to win by 17 runs.

Deciding to bat first on the mat-covered concrete pitch, the innings once again got off to the worst possible start when the returning Louise Worsfold was removed third ball of the innings without scoring.

But it just brought the consistent Georgie Cant to the crease and she once again proved a class act and certainly one of the players of the tour with another impressive innings.

Coupled with Mel Vaggers, they added 37 in good time before the opener was dismissed hit wicket after stepping back too far off Lynz Nabwire for 12.

Skipper Hazelle Garton took a risk too far as the livewire Nabwire fired in a throw from mid-wicket to run her out but, once again, Caz Norris proved what a vital part of the trip she has been.

Alongside Georgie Cant, the pair added a crucial 42 off 33 balls as the innings came to its close with Cant disappointingly missing out on a well-deserved half century when she was run out by Edith Wachira for 48 off 49 balls (4 fours).

The innings reached its conclusion with Norris closing on an unbeaten 27 off 19 balls and a total in excess of 100, which was always going to be competitive on this ground.

As expected, the highly skilled opening pair of skipper Mary Wambui and Queentor Abel set out the target in their usual attacking style, taking 15 off the first two overs.

But the choices of skipper Garton to keep the slower of the bowlers in the attack proved a masterstroke, coupled with well-set fields to keep the runs at a premium.

Abel was the first to go with a sedate 13 when she was lbw to Kirsty Gavillet but, again Wambui was the key to the result and when she was second out at 52, driving Sarah Streete to backward point where Caz Norris was waiting, the run-rate rose.

The big hitting Wachira struggled to get the ball away with her usual force and was the second of three run-outs, two of which were well taken by Vaggers and the third, a direct hit from Gavillet, which certainly pleased her!

In the end, the home side were 17 runs short and it was nothing more than the UKAF side deserved with a very good display of cricket, coming off the back of another well attended school training session prior to the game.

The party now head back to Nairobi for tomorrow’s final Festival fixture and the flight home, taking home with them plenty of memories … and two wins!
